In our Consequences campaign, celebrities such as professional angler Scott Martin and four-time wakeboard world champion Shaun Murray urge the public not to mix alcohol and boating. The U.S. Coast Guard reports that alcohol is number one contributing factor to boating casualties (when contributing factor was known). The program’s implementation of the Sea Tow Foundation’s Sober Skipper campaign along with Ride Dry, Drive Dry in video public service announcements aim to reduce boating accidents and deaths by reminding boaters of the consequences of impaired boating. Audience surveys show an ongoing culture shift toward safer boating thanks to this outreach program, including limiting alcohol consumption and increased use of life jackets.
